Donnersdorf, Germany, 25/10/2019.The "Open Fusion Platform (OFP)" project launched by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research in 2016 was successfully completed. The Project budget of 7.6 million Euros aimed to develop electric mobility as well as automated and networked driving. The final presentation and demonstration took place in Braunschweig (Germany).
Over a period of two years, research institutions, universities and specialists from the IT, sensor technology and automotive industries cooperated. As one of the ten partners, the radar technology company InnoSenT GmbH contributed its expertise in radar-based driver assistance systems as well as autonomous driving.
The research partners jointly developed a control unit with an open interface. This open fusion platform simplifies the embedding of automated driving functions for automotive manufacturers and suppliers. It reduces the time and effort to mount new self-driving functions in mid-range vehicles.
In addition, the OFP combines data acquired by technologies such as camera, lidar and radar in a 3D environment model in order to optimize the planning of autonomous vehicle motion. This measure serves in particular the reliable and safe valet parking.
