Donnersdorf (Germany) 03/07/2020.The CHARM research project started in June 2020 to create new technical developments for extremely adverse industrial environment conditions. The InnoSenT Company, as one of the 37 participants, brings in its expertise from radar development.
The potential of digitization for industry is enormous. But in the manufacturing trade, it is a challenge to establish the achievements for the Internet of Things (IoT) due to harsh physical conditions. In this cooperation, the project partners try to find tough solutions for this. The ambition: Creating a competitive advantage for Europe with state-of-the-art technology that is equipped for the rough, industrial environment. The name CHARM stands for "Challenging environments tolerant Smart systems for IoT and AI".
The major project has a duration of three years and a budget of 29 million euros. The joint fund is provided by the ECSEL Joint Undertaking, the EU framework program Horizon 2020, national funding funds and the consortium partners from nine European countries.
For the project partners, development work now begins according to the requirements for six different application areas. They are working on advanced electronic systems for the automation, monitoring and maintenance of industrial machines and large systems. The prototypes are then put through their paces by production-related companies in the relevant industries. In the practical test, the prototypes have to withstand considerable thermal, mechanical and chemical stress.
The medium-sized company InnoSenT supports the project work by developing radar components for autonomous mining machines. It brings many years of experience in industrial and automotive radar technology to the table. The company has been driving the development of sensor technology and innovations forward significantly since 1999.
The CHARM project benefits in particular from technical advances in tracking, circuit development, sensor technology for autonomous driving and the application experience of the radar experts.
"We look forward to a great cooperation. It is nice to be part of such a big project. With developing for the Mining industry, we have the opportunity to further develop and test our radar technology in a completely new field of application for collision avoidance", says Thilo Lenhard, team leader of Advanced Radar Development and contact person for research projects at InnoSenT.
